Programming Motorola DR3000 - Part One

We have recently received numerous enquiries as what features would someone get in a MOTOTRBO two-way communication system. We saw this as a perfect opportunity to not only introduce the features, but also technically discuss the programming of the system to elevate the general knowledge of the customers or any other radio enthusiast who is willing to go the extra mile !

Once you connect to a DR3000, you will see the Device Information page which provides you with the repeater’s activated/available features as well as firmware version, serial number, frequency range, etc.

Some of these figures such as firmware represent a significant importance especially when you are trying to link two or more repeaters together. (We will see this in the upcoming parts of this topic). Also make sure that the feature you require in enlisted either as Free or Purchased in the same page before you proceed with programming the repeater.

Let us start with adding a new channel to the repeater. To do so, simply right click on the Zone1 and move the cursor over Add and select the type of the channel you want to program. You will be given different options depending on the activated features in your repeater (in this instance we have Analogue, Digital and Dynamic Mixed Mode as default and Capacity Plus as a purchased feature).

In most cases when you select an analogue channel all you need to worry about is the TX and RX frequency and the Squelch Type. Also take a note of the Power Level settings which will be covered in the next series of this topic.

The same applies when you choose the digital channel, however, here you need to make sure you have the right Color Code.
